System modelling and performance simulation are essential to successful renewable energy project evaluation and implementation. This activity enables a much more thorough analysis of a project's technical and financial implications. Modelling and simulation provide greater clarity through information necessary to support key decisions and risk evaluation of projects.

Designing the specific details of the system including hardware selection and system routing is the final step prior to project implementation. Renewable energy system design for successfully implemented projects is based on the results of the feasibility study; system modelling; and performance simulation. A key target of the design process is appropriate hardware selection, completed within budget for a given system design.
