Measure, reduce, and communicate !

IES, as a recognized European leader on carbon quantification and reduction strategies, helps companies, local governents and municipalities quantify and reduce their carbon emissions.  We accompany clients from start to finish and help implement true carbon reduction strategies.  With our international presence and expertise, we are able to accompany our clients accross borders, be it in North America, Europe, or Asia.  We have been chosen and have accompanies ADEME and the French government to adapt the French methodolgies in China, South East Asia, the United Sates of America, Canada, and Morocco.

France has shown a leadership role during the COP 21 international Negotiations in Paris last december, and will continue to do so in  the coming months with the COP 22 conference that will be held in Marakech next november.  The French (article 75) of the Grenelle law on the environment n°2010-788 of the 12 July 2010 and the decree n° 2011-829 of the 11 July 2011 state :

To realise a greenhouse gas emission profile (GHG) is compulsory for private corporations employing more than 500 people in Metropolitan France or more than 250 people for overseas regions and departmentsThe carbon study is also mandatory for state enterprises, Regional governements,  municipalities or communities of more 50.000 inhabitants.

GHG emission balance is a public document and it is updated every 3 years.

The first article of the bill on energy transition defines the following objectives  :

  1. «Reducing greenhouse gas emissions of 40% between 1990 and 2030 and divide by 4 greenhouse gas emissions between 1990 and 2050; 
  2. «Reducing final energy consumption of 50% in 2050 compared to the reference year of 2012 and to bring the annual rate of decrease of the final energy intensity at 2,5% from now to 2030;
  3. «Reducing the primary energy consumption of fossil fuels to 30% in 2030 compared to the reference 2012;
  4. «Bringing the percentage of renewable energy to 23% of the gross final energy consumption in 2020 and at 32% of this consumption in 2030;

In order to reach these objectives, it is essential to to have the tools and methodologies available for keeping records of GHG emissions, and keeping track of the reduction strategies. The methododlogy developped by ADEME and the French government has focused on first establishing a carbon profile, in order to develope a long-term carbon reduction strategy.  Understanding a companie’s or city’s volnurability to carbon, is the first step in order to identify the priority actions for reductions.

At the European level, the European Commission has committed on the 6 March 2015 to reduce the European Union’s emission to at least 40% compared the 1990 levels, with the aim to stay under the 2°C rise of the average global temperature. This decision was taken before the COP21 which took place in Paris from the 31st of November to the 11th of December 2015.
